Right with the new shoes comes a new 10K PB really pleased with that, shoes seem to feel good and not hurting as much now. So means that my feet and legs are getting used to the new shoes and how they work etc.
So its nearly the time where we stuff ourselves silly and then get back to training afterwards, not for me as I will be working over the Christmas period, please don’t feel sorry for me as I wasn’t working last year so fair is fair.
So the second part to this post is that I have purchased another new pair of running shoes, ok so I only just ran in my new Asics and I am already getting another pair of shoes, the reason behind it is that I have been wanting to try these Skora shoes for a while now and I think its just something I have to get out of my head and know whether it is for me or not. Plus they are very hard to get hold of in the UK, so when I saw the sale on SportPursuit I thought ok lets do this.
Edit : They are here, so they have arrived and I have been for a run in them and they are very good, really light and roomy, the left heal support seems to hurt but I guess they need a little bedding in.
So due to this time of year and the fact I would be staying down for the night. I thought it would be ideal to combine a little run whilst being in London, plan was to run the finishing part of the marathon to see what the contrast would be like.
So during the works Christmas party I made sure not to go OTT and to get to bed early. This part of the plan worked and waking up at around 7am and getting ready also went well. What didn’t go well was getting a little lost and in the process ending up running 10k, but hey all part of the fun.
As you can see I went a little lower than had planned but made it work back to the hotel and still got in the end part of the marathon which was the main goal, it was great to run in a different area and I also ran in my new Asics trainers which I will be using for the London Marathon aswell a win, win.
Ok so I wasn’t going to do a half until later on in the month but due to my work colleague who is also training for the marathon doing it the day before I thought right lets do it.
I have been running a nice route which works out to be around 10k and knowing the route can be adapted slightly to make it longer I knew that I would be able to just keep going. So getting up very early and having everything prepared (this really does help and saves time from hunting for your gear and getting ready) I left the house and set off, with the first part of the journey thinking where I could ‘stash’ my water bottle ready for the return leg to get some fluids in me whilst taking a gel or 2.
I didn’t want to go crazy for my first time just to see where I would be and how I would do, bearing in mind that this was very early and I took just a banna and some gels, I think I did really well hoping for a 1hr 40 time I was 10 minutes off but still very happy with the result.
As you can see from the image of the run data, the route is a nice up and down, nothing too crazy for a first go, but very constant with the speed and so very happy, will have to see how my body feels later on but it was a very good test to do now just to see where I am now and see what needs to be tweaked!
