Yup you have guessed I decided with a deal available to get some road running specific trainers.

Can you guess what brand I went for? Yup Asics, I went for the Gel-Nimbus 16 in the Blue colourway. (They match my socks)

After having my Gait analysed I have been looking and looking and looking at multiple pairs and comparing and watching the prices, Wiggle had a deal on again so I went and chose the above pair at a reduced rate.

They seemed to be a little tighter than the previous pair but thought they would break in a little and I really didn’t want a pair of trainers that would end up being too big so stuck with these 9’s and not the 9.5’s.

Now with over 10 miles in and they feel very nice indeed, just right in fact odd how these felt different from the Fuji’s that I had purchased, albeit second hand off eBay, but didn’t think that 2 9’s from the same company would differ. Anyway my running feels better and they feel a lot more surefooted than the Fuji’s when the surface is damp which does help to build confidence but its not missed placed. The laces a little shorter than the Fuji’s but they do lace up well and feel very supportive.

Overall I am happy with them as my first proper pair of running shoes, I can only imagine what the top of the range 17’s are like?!

Been looking into running a bit more and bought a few magazines now, also some are available on my Android tablet with a 30 day free trail ( if you time it right you can get 2 months worth free).

So I had Trail Runner and Runners World UK 2 very good magazines and I have been able to learn a great deal from these.

One of the articles in RWUK happened to mention about a movement of #run2work day.

They are trying to get a government scheme whereby you could get a similar voucher to the Cycle 2 Work, where by you would be able to purchase running equipment (shoes, top and bottoms) whilst also making sure there is facilities to allow you to get changed, most places have a shower or similar area to allow you to get changed. I did sign up to the petition but be warned I did get a lot mail about other petitions, must of missed the tick box on that one.

I think this is a good idea and with that in mind I created a Facebook page – My movement Ipswich/Suffolk   So if you are local then please join the group and share your experiences.

They say about running to work on a Thursday but no reason why you can’t run when ever you wanted to, some I know run to work and then bus or lift home and vesa versa. Just do it how ever it best fits you, I do run to and from work but it does take it out of you.

I often scan eBay for cycling and running bits and pieces, sometimes also anything in between.

So this time I ended up purchasing Runners World UK magazine and their running book. Magazine was cheap so was happy about that and also seems to have a subscribers cover, the book was also cheaper than purchasing new so again happy about this.

I have been able to have a read of both with the book being very helpful. So if you are happy to wait a little longer for a good running read then eBay is a safe bet to go to for this.

So now with a month under my belt of running and having spoken to a couple of colleagues they had advised that there was a Sweatshop local to us whereby you could have your running analysed so I could chose the right shoes for my running style.

I phoned before hand and had a bit of time in lieu so decided to venture there after work as they said they are not overly busy.

Arriving I was greeted with a normal ‘Hi how are you’ which is when I told them I would like to have my Gait analysed and the assistant was only too happy to help, first off I was asked to take off my shoes and socks and then stand on what looked liked a glass topped box, this then came alive with a green glow which could then tell the assistant what type of arch I had on my feet. Turns out my left foot has a lower arch than my right. Not too worry as I could have insoles at a no cost to try, so I did and short story didn’t really notice the difference nor warranted the cost of them. I had done the wet foot test and didn’t really see much difference between the 2.

Next step was to try some normal pronation trainers and then do a little run on the treadmill, there is a camera that videos your time on the treadmill with then some software allows them to slow down the footage and play around with it to find how your natural style of running is, whether that is Neutral, Under Pronation or Over Pronation, this then determines the type of footwear you can purchase which will help your running. I never knew that there was different types and was a little glad in going and whilst finding out I was neutral I think the experience was worth it.

Now the hunt is on for some new trainers, that are tarmac and neutral specific, only time and money will tell.

Ok so one of my first runs was to work, this would be easier to run to the in-laws after work than take my bike etc as there was no room, nor the cycle rack was available.

So how did I do?

Not too bad, started off very fast which I think shows my in experience currently but of course that will change as I become fitter and also better understand how to run.

I have a backpack which I use for my cycling commutes, has enough space plus the added bonus I can add my water bladder to it also when required, so knowing that I run hot and like to take on fluids I ran with around 2 litres of water on my back along with my change of clothes (I leave my work trousers over the back of my chair during the week) and some lunch.

I didn’t do too bad, but was more annoyed that the route I took, most direct, didn’t allow me to rack up my 5k mark. Hey you live and learn.

The evening route was shorter and very flat so was a nice change, but the next day I did start to feel it. I didn’t warm down very well at all and suffered for it, again something to put down to the steep learning curve that comes with running and finding out how your body can do.

Will I do it again, yes I would, lets see if I do.

Ok so these trainers came from eBay for around £30 delivered, I didn’t want to spend to much on a pair of running trainers if I wasn’t really going to go to far with it, also the fact the rest of my running kit. The previous owner said about they had only been worn and few times and this was true as they seemed like new when they arrived.

Anyway done a few runs in them now and they feel very nice, I use a pair of Asics Tiger ’86 trainers as my main wearers so like how the brand feels on my feet.

I have noticed that when the ground is a little wet, pavements and road, they don’t seem to be too sure footed but I am happy to continue to use them and will upgrade later on.
