So due to this time of year and the fact I would be staying down for the night. I thought it would be ideal to combine a little run whilst being in London, plan was to run the finishing part of the marathon to see what the contrast would be like.

So during the works Christmas party I made sure not to go OTT and to get to bed early. This part of the plan worked and waking up at around 7am and getting ready also went well. What didn’t go well was getting a little lost and in the process ending up running 10k, but hey all part of the fun.

As you can see I went a little lower than had planned but made it work back to the hotel and still got in the end part of the marathon which was the main goal, it was great to run in a different area and I also ran in my new Asics trainers which I will be using for the London Marathon aswell a win, win.

Ok so I wasn’t going to do a half until later on in the month but due to my work colleague who is also training for the marathon doing it the day before I thought right lets do it.

I have been running a nice route which works out to be around 10k and knowing the route can be adapted slightly to make it longer I knew that I would be able to just keep going. So getting up very early and having everything prepared (this really does help and saves time from hunting for your gear and getting ready) I left the house and set off, with the first part of the journey thinking where I could ‘stash’ my water bottle ready for the return leg to get some fluids in me whilst taking a gel or 2.

I didn’t want to go crazy for my first time just to see where I would be and how I would do, bearing in mind that this was very early and I took just a banna and some gels, I think I did really well hoping for a 1hr 40 time I was 10 minutes off but still very happy with the result.

As you can see from the image of the run data, the route is a nice up and down, nothing too crazy for a first go, but very constant with the speed and so very happy, will have to see how my body feels later on but it was a very good test to do now just to see where I am now and see what needs to be tweaked!

So a few weeks in now and I have to say I am pleased with the progressed I have made so far, finding the routes to do has been a struggle to get the distance and timing right but now has come together nicely. With a 10k route being used to and from work not sure how this will work with the colder weather, may have to be adjusted, the route uses some a nice decent that turns into a incline on the reverse leg home!

But overall I am very happy and doing the miles or near enough a week without being too tired I feel has started to pay off and still on target to do a longer run by the end of the year.

So with the entry into the London Marathon I have now set myself a target of being able to complete a Half marathon before the end of the year.

I have also set a target time of 3 Hours 5 Minutes which mean I would then qualify for 2017 marathon, time will see if this is a little bit out of my reach but nothing like pushing yourself to see what your end result will be, I am hoping that I would be atleast under 4 hours!!

Ok it seems that when I have a long break, longer than say a day or 2 I feel a lot stronger when returning to the running.

Sometimes its not that I don’t want to run, just that life gets in the way sometimes and you have to adapt but when it does get in the way and I return to a run I really do feel stronger. Proves that a good rest is very good for recovery!

Ok so I had been reading about how different height of trainers can effect the achillies heel, as I had been getting a sore achillies heel over the last few months since getting the Cumulus running trainers, after walking or warming up the achillies didn’t hurt and so thought I would look into it, one of the causes could be due to not the right shoes or even lowering the height of them.

So I phone my local Sweatshop store where I had been gait analysed earlier in the year and after another session on the tread mill with a women who was really into I ended up having a new trainers for pronation and not neutral, also a size larger.

So with a only a few days to the 10k race I took a gamble and you know what it paid off, with a PB no less so I am very happy and very happy with the service I received from the shop!!
